WORKSHOP

7th International Plasma Science & Entrepreneurship Workshop

On November 2 & 3, 2020, the 7th International Plasma Science & Entrepreneurship Workshop took place at the event centre of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The event was organized by Hugo de Haan (programme, Vision Dynamics), Guus Peemen (chair, TuE), and Achim von Keudell (host and chair, RUB). Topics are:

  • Plasma medicine, medical and healthcare
  • Plasma Surface modification & thin films
  • Atmospheric pressure plasma @ Micro/Nano scale
  • Atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ)
  • Nanoparticles generation and pariclesurface treatment
  • Surface diagnostics, energetics, analytics and –metrology
  • Plasma parameterization, diagnostics, simulation
  • Plasma for Emission Abatement

The workshop is a PhD (student) expert-level workshop focused on the achievements, challenges and opportunities for the scientific- and entrepreneurial community working in the field.

Conference organization

Successful Frontiers conference in Bad Honnef

Between May 12th and May 16th, 2019, the 13th Frontiers in Low-Temperature in Plasma Diagnostics and 1st Frontiers in Low-Temperature Plasma Simulations was held in the Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef. The conference was organized by the Research Department Plasmas with Complex Interactions and chaired by Prof. Czarnetzki from the SFB 1316. In total, 103 participants joined the diagnostics and simulation meeting. Scientists from both collaborative research centers, SFB TR 87 and SFB 1316, attended the meeting and presented five poster and four oral contributions.

Conferences

Plathinium conference in Antibes

The Coordinated Research Center CRC 1316 was presented at the 1st Plathinium Conference (September 16th until September 20th) in Antibes. This conference is a newly combined meeting of the former French vacuum congress, the French assembly on magnetron sputtering and thin films as well as the French conference on ion beam techniques. Achim von Keudell gave a plenary lecture on atmospheric pressure plasma chemistry and contributed with a tutorial on fundamentals of plasmas to a workshop preceding the meeting. Achim von Keudell was also elected to become the chair of the 2nd Plathinium conference in 2021.

WORKING group meeting

Afternoon on Plasmas in Liquids

On September 23rd 2019 the working group "Plasmas in Liquids" met in ID 04/401 at the Ruhr University for an "Afternoon on Plasmas in Liquids". Next to an invited talk by Prof. Satoshi Hamaguchi on the "Numerical analyses of plasma-liquid interaction", an intoduction to plasmas and presentations on applications and diagnostics were given. The meeting ended with a hands-on workshop at AEPT.

Meeting

Project Meeting Kerkrade

Between July 8 and July 10, 2019, the annual retreat of the CRC 1316 took place in Kerkrade. Nearly 40 participants joined the event at the Abbey Hotel Rolduc during the three days.

At the first day, a special PhD activity took place, followed by two days intensive scientific discussions with all participants.

Conference

International Workshop on Microplasmas in Kyoto 5/2019

Several projects of the SFB 1316 presented their reseach at the International Workshop on Microplasmas in Kyoto in May 2019 as two oral and six poster presentations.

High-resolution spectroscopic and electrical diagnostics of barrier discharges - Thomas Hoder -

Streamer mechanism is one of the main ionisation mechanisms in highpressure plasma jets, pulsing coronas or barrier discharges. In atmospheric air, it is an ultra-fast process which produces a light emission or current pulses with duration of only several units of nanoseconds. In such challenging case, an enhanced diagnostic method has to be applied. In this contribution, high-resolution sensitive spectroscopic and electrical methods will be presented which enable the determination of basic plasma parameters in mentioned fast ionising events. The presented methods will be applied to barrier discharges in contact with condensed matter - solid and liquid - and their use for further applied research will be critically discussed. It will take place on Wednesday, October 17th, 13:00 – 14:00, in our seminar room (NB 5/ 158, Experimentalphysik 2). Other interested SFB members, students, and external scientists are welcome to join as well. Please register by email to Alicia Gonzalez (This email address is being protected from spambots.
